The Bethlehem Thobe in Palestine, a Photograph by Yousef Albina, the 1950s
Taken by Yousef Albina in the 1950s, this photograph shows the Bethlehem thobe in Palestine. The Bethlehem thobe consists of a black embroidered dress with two long silk sleeves made out of striped silk and called "ar-Radan". On top of the dress, women wear striped silk belts and on their heads, they wear Shatwa, a red headcover covered with the Tarbeea from the top and back. The Tarbeea is a white embroidered scarf, while the front and the top of the Shatwa are covered in gold coins.
