The Ramallah Thobe in Palestine, a Photograph by Yousef Albina, the 1950s
Taken by Yousef Albina in the 1950s, this photograph shows the Ramallah thobe in Palestine. The Ramallah thobe consists of a white dress embroidered in red and black at the neckline, the sides and hands, while the embroidery size varies from one thobe to the other in accordance with the occasion or the woman's social status. In the middle, women wear striped silk belts, while they wear a hat called Shatwa as a headcover, which is usually covered in Turkish golden coins and an embroidered white scarf that covers the Shatwa from the top and back and reaches the middle of the thobe.
