Diaries of Khalil Sakakini, 13 June 1940
Handwritten, this archival item documents the diaries of Khalil Sakakini on Thursday 13 June 1940, where he mentioned going with his sister Milia and daughters Dumia and Hala to the cemetery and spreading flowers, that schools are off because of the British King's birthday, going to Yousef Abdo's office, where he met with Hanna Yasmeenah and Hanna Hamameh, so they spoke of Europe entering the war, as he explains the reason for that, that Europeans and Americans hold back their emotions, making war an emotional outlet, unlike easterners who express emotions, and the second reason in his opinion is Europe's fight to keep control and survive. Then, he mentioned that Naouri and Gabriel Abu Saadi, the Greek language teacher at as-Salahiya School in Jerusalem, visited him that afternoon, then his cousin, his wife, Jeries al-Issa and his wife visited him. After which, he recalled what was written in his diary on the same day the previous year.
