Shaheed Ahmad Syam's Doodles Displayed at the '100 Shaheed - 100 Lives' Exhibition, Feb 2001

Taken by Isabel de la Cruz, this photograph shows Doodles on a math copybook belonging to the shaheed Ahmad Syam from the village of Mu'aweyeh near Um el-Fahem. On October 2nd, 2000, after having performed the prayer of the dead at Kahawish Mountain for a dead acquaintance, soldiers took them by surprise and shot them. Syam was shot in the head and murdered at once. This item was displayed at the '100 Shaheed - 100 Lives' exhibition, held at the Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center in Ramallah on February 20, 2001. The idea of the exhibition emerged weeks after the outbreak of the Second Intifada (Al-Aqsa Intifada) as a tribute to all those murdered in the struggle. However, as the number of shaheeds was exponentially increasing, the exhibition was limited to honoring the first 100 shaheeds representing all areas of Historic Palestine.
