Shaheed Shadi Alwawi's Poster of the Dome of the Rock Displayed at the '100 Shaheed - 100 Lives' Exhibition, Feb 2001
Taken by Isabel de la Cruz, this photograph shows a detail of a poster of the Dome of the Rock belonging to the shaheed Shadi Alwawi. He was a refugee of the village of Zarnuqa near al-Ramleh. On October 6th, 2000, he was murdered during the forces of the Israeli Occupation army attack on al-Fawwar Palestinian Refugee Camp, when he was coming from Saudi Arabia to visit some relatives. This item was displayed at the '100 Shaheed - 100 Lives' exhibition, held at the Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center in Ramallah on February 20, 2001. The idea of the exhibition emerged weeks after the outbreak of the Second Intifada (al-Aqsa Intifada) as a tribute to all those murdered in the struggle. However, as the number of shaheeds was exponentially increasing, the exhibition was limited to honoring the first 100 shaheeds representing all areas of Historic Palestine.
