"Loubieh and Ain al-Hilweh", Stories from the Sea to the River Project, 2022

This video documents an interview conducted by Tarek Al-Bakri and Bayan Sukkar with Um Munib Zaiter, from the forcibly depopulated village of Lubbieh, who resides in the Ain al-Hilweh refugee camp in Sidon. In a video call, al-Bakri spoke with Sukkar and Zaiter and took them on a tour of the depopulated village. Um Munib shared her memories of the village, particularly the tradition of collecting firewood and presenting it at weddings for the bridegroom, as well as the village’s distinctive homes in terms of their number of floors and layout, the village mosque, its cemetery, Maqam an-Nabi Shuwaymin (Prophet Shuwaymin Shrine), and its wells, noting that each family had its own well. Her children and neighbor joined the call, and Al-Bakri took them to the Zaiter vineyard. In the end, Um Munib requested a handful of soil from her village. The video was produced by Shagaf for Digital Expression, in collaboration with the "We Were and Still Are... Here" initiative and the Campji platform in 2022, as part of the "Stories from the Sea to the River" project, funded by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, and supervised by Taawon (Welfare Association).
